1 Dead, 1 Injured in Abilene Collision

A man is dead following a fiery collision on Highway 277 near Abilene Wednesday night.  

Details of the Fatal Crash

KTXS reports that 28-year-old Timothy Allen Shepard was killed Wednesday when his car was struck by another vehicle on Highway 277, roughly nine miles south of Abilene.

Authorities state that the accident occurred around 6:30 pm. Shepard was traveling south on Highway 277 when another vehicle traveling north crossed into oncoming traffic. The driver of the other vehicle, Justin Lee Lett, 26, attempted to avoid Shepard but failed.

Lett’s vehicle slammed into Shepard’s sending both cars into a ditch. Shepard’s vehicle was trapped under Lett’s, and both vehicles caught fire.

Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene – Lett was treated and released from Hendrick Medcial Center.

The accident is still under investigation.
