1 Dead, 1 Injured in Cincinnati Collapse

One person was killed and another was injured after an overpass collapsed in Cincinnati.

About the Fatal Overpass Collapse

According to FOX News, an overpass undergoing demolition collapsed on Interstate 75 around 10:30 pm Monday, killing a construction worker and injuring a semi tractor-trailer driver.

The accident sent several hundred tons of concrete tumbling to the road below. Jeffrey Blackwell, the Cincinnati Police Chief, expects that the southbound side of Interstate 75 will be closed for 48 hours.

The injured driver had minor injuries and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. There is no information about the other victim as of now, and no immediate indication of the cause of the collapse.

The man’s body was removed from the rubble around 3 am Tuesday.

  • 4,405 workers were killed on the job in 2013. This averages to about 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • 3,929 work related death were associated with private industry and 796 occurred at construction sites.

    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-in/between
