Suspected drunk driver leaves one construction worker dead and another with serious injuries.

About the Paris Work Zone Accident

Authorities in Paris, Texas are investigating a fatal accident in which construction workers Christian Castro, 21, and Aaron Cirrola, 50, were struck by a suspected drunk driver. Castro died at the scene while Cirrola was rushed to a Tyler hospital for head trauma and a serious injury to his leg.

According to KXII, Geno Allen, 26, was barreled into a construction zone near the 3200-=block of Bonham Street around 10:30 Tuesday morning. Allen’s vehicle struck the two workers before collided with a telephone pole. Castro was carried nearly one block after being hit.

Allen has been detained on felony charges including Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault.

  • 3,534 people were fatally injured in auto accidents in Texas in 2014 – a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.

  • 29-percent of all traffic fatalities reported in Texas in 2014 were attributed to accidents involving a drunk driver, accounting for 1,041 deaths.
  • DUI accidents were most prevalent between the hours of 2:00 am and 2:59 am and more crashes occurred on Saturday than any other day of the week.
