1 Dead, 1 Injured in Shelby County Pedestrian Accident

Authorities in Shelby County, Texas are investigating a pedestrian accident that left a young woman dead and another pedestrian hospitalized last night. Preliminary reports indicate the two Good Samaritans were assisting another motorist when the accident occurred.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to KLTV, 19-year-old Kadeshia Simone Barfield and 24-year-old Demanio Lavandrick Howard, both of Mansfield, Louisiana, had stopped to assist a stranded motorist along State Highway 7 about five miles east of Center, Texas when they were both struck by a 2010 Ford Fusion.

Barfield was pronounced dead at the scene, and Howard was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment – he was later released.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, Mitzi Rey Baker-Kennedy, 47, remained at the scene of the accident. Baker-Kennedy was not injured in the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
