1 Dead, 2 Injured in Culpeper County Trucking Accident

One person is dead and two others are injured as a result of a multi-vehicle accident along U.S. 29 in Culpeper County, Virginia.

About the Culpeper Collision

Around 7:20 am Wednesday, Virginia State Police received a call regarding a fiery collision at the intersection of U.S. 29 and Route 663 in Culpeper County.

According to the Star Exponent, a passenger car and a tractor-trailer belonging to Culpeper Trucking LLC were stopped at the intersection when a produce truck collided with the Culpeper Trucking vehicle, forcing it into the passenger car.

The driver of the produce truck died at the scene while the drivers of the Culpeper Trucking truck and the passenger vehicle were rushed to area hospitals. There condition was not listed.

Following information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 3,921 people were killed in trucking accidents in 2012 – a 4 percent increase from the 3,781 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • An additional 104,000 people were injured in collisions involving large trucks, marking an 18 percent increase from 2011.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents:
    • 640 were occupants of large trucks
    • 2,713 were occupants of other vehicles
    • 428 were non-occupants such as bicyclists and pedestrians
