About the Texas Helicopter Crash

According to ABC News, the helicopter was carrying a patient that was being transported from Waurika, Oklahoma to United Regional Health Care in Wichita Falls. The helicopter had traveled most of its 35 mile trip when it crashed around 2 am.

The patient was killed in the collision – the pilot of the helicopter and two medical personnel were injured. The pilot is was rushed to United Regional with serious injuries while the flight nurse and paramedic were listed in critical condition upon arriving to the Parkland Hospital burn unit in Dallas.

The names of those have not been released. Authorities are still investigating the incident. Members of an Air Evac Lifeteam crew that had been waiting on the helicopters arrival were the first to respond to the incident.

Second Fatal Medical Flight Crash in Under Two Months

The accident comes within two months of a fatal medical flight accident in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The New Mexico accident resulted in the deaths of all four occupants, 29-year-old pilot Freddy Martinez, 27-year-old flight paramedic Tauren Summer, 35-year-old nurse Monica Chavez, and the 59-year-old patient, Fredrick Green.

An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board is ongoing, but early reports indicated that the plane had received the wrong fuel before taking off from the Las Cruces airport.
