Officials are investigating a fatal tugboat accident that occurred near Long Island on Saturday.

About the Tug Boat Incident

According to Reuters, one crew member died while three were injured when a New York tugboat sank off Fire Island. The boat, the Sea Bear was traveling back from the Shinnecock Inlet to New York.

The Coast Guard dispatched a fleet of rescue boats and a helicopter in response to a notification sent by the Sea Bear to a vessel service stating that it had begun taking on water.

The Coast Guard recued three crew members from the near freezing water after a 45 minute search. The fourth member’s body was found without an immersion suit.

Officials have not determined the cause of the sinking.
