Less than two hours into the new year, Corpus Christi experienced its first fatal auto accident of 2014.

About the Fatal Corpus Christi Auto Accident

  • Corpus Christi police and emergency crews responded to their first fatal auto accident of 2014 around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday after an SUV flipped on the Crosstown Expressway near Gollihar.
  • According KRIS-TV, the vehicle's driver, 46-year-old Linda Morin, was killed in the early morning accident and the five other occupants suffered serious injuries.
  • Morin’s boyfriend, Guadalupe Lopez, 69, was trapped in the vehicle while his two sons and two grandchildren, ages 8 and 12, were thrown from the vehicle.
  • Morin’s daughter told reporters that her mother was not drinking on New Year’s Eve, but police investigating the accident do believe alcohol was a factor.
  • As authorities investigated the scene, another driver traveling through the area collided with a police cruiser – the driver was arrested on a DWI charge.
