1 Dead in El Paso Industrial Accident

An industrial accident in east El Paso has left one man dead on Wednesday.

About the Deadly Industrial Accident

According to KFOX-TV, emergency crews were called to 14121 Gateway Blvd. West Wednesday afternoon to find that an employee of S & S Truck Sales had been pinned under a semi-truck

40-year-old Javier Arteaga Loya was working underneath the truck when the vehicle fell on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The El Paso County Sherriff’s Office is still investigating the incident.

On the Job Injury Statistics

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 people were killed in on the job accidents in 2013 – this averages to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • 3,929 deaths occurred in private industry and 796 were recorded in construction.
  • Among the most common causes of deaths in the private industry were:
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocution
    • Falls
    • Caught-in/between
