1 Dead in San Antonio Head On Collision

One man is dead and a second is in critical condition after a head-on collision in southeast Bexar County, Texas.

Details of the Fatal Accident

A high school aged male was traveling south on Loop 1604 when he clipped an East Central Independent School District bus, causing him to swerve into an oncoming Honda, according to the sheriff's office.

The young man was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition and the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were at least six middle and high school students on the bus when it was clipped, but none were injured.

Two trucks were also unable to stop in time and hit the other cars involved in the crash. Neither of the drivers of those vehicles was injured.

Loop 1604 was closed down from just north of 87 to FM 1518 while investigators processed the scene.

  • Texas experienced an increase in the number of motor vehicle traffic fatalities. The 2014 death toll of 3,534 was an increase of 3.70% from the 3,408 deaths recorded in 2013.
  • 581 deaths were attributed to head-on collision.
  • There were 13,675 serious injury crashes in Texas in 2014 with 17,152 people sustaining a serious injury.
