Destiny Baker2 years ago

A Nacogdoches man is dead after being struck by an SUV that had traveled across the SH 7 median and on to the opposing shoulder.

Authorities Investigating Fatal Accident

According to KYTX, the accident happened roughly 4 miles west of Joaquin, Texas around 3:40 pm Wednesday.

Preliminary reports suggest the driver of a 2001 Ford Explorer, Sheila Hooks Dixon, 54, was traveling in the eastbound lane of SH 7 when she drifted across the center stripe and onto the westbound shoulder.

Dixon’s SUV then collided with a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup that was stopped on the shoulder and fatally injured the vehicle's driver, 34-year-old Arthur Edward Rogers, who was standing outside of his vehicle.

Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 pm. Authorities are still investigating the incident and have not commented on what caused Dixon to drift so far into opposing traffic.
