1 Dead in Suspected Drunk Driving Accident in Corpus Christi

A suspected drunk driver is facing intoxication manslaughter charges in connection with a fatal collision that occurred in Corpus Christi last Thursday.

Details of the Fatal Corpus Christi Collision

According to KRIS TV, the unidentified man was driving a pickup truck when he went the wrong way on an exit ramp of the Harbor Bridge and collided head-on with a Nissan Xterra.

The driver of the Xterra, a woman, was rushed to Spohn Memorial Hospital but later died. The wrong-way driver was not seriously injured.

Police said they suspect alcohol was involved in the accident. If this is found to be true, the driver of the pickup truck could face charges of intoxicated manslaughter.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in auto accidents in 2014, a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.
  • Of those deaths, 1,041 were linked to accidents in which at least one driver was under the influence of alcohol.
  • 581 people were killed in head-on collision in 2014.
  • An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accidents in 2014 – roughly on injury every 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
