One person was fatally injured in a trucking accident near Winnsboro, Texas on Thursday.

Details of the Fatal Trucking Accident

According to the KETK, the accident occurred on Highway 11 about seven miles east of Winnsboro.

Police reports indicate a tractor-trailer traveling westbound on Highway 11 drifted over the median and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the car, 42-year-old Velma Dismukes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

The following information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 3,921 people were killed in collisions involving large trucks in 2012, marking an 4-percent increase over 2011.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents in 2012:
    • 697 were occupants of large trucks
    • 2,843 were occupants of other vehicles
    • 381 were non-occupants including pedestrians and pedalcyclists
  • Another 104,000 people were injured in trucking accidents in 2013, up 18 percent from 88,000 injuries in 2012.
