It took 2 ½ hours to recover the dead man’s body from the rubble as investigators examined the scene; his identity has not yet been released.
The injured man was rushed to Kennedy University Hospital after complaining of chest pains. His injuries are no thought to be life-threatening.
OSHA Investigates Building Collapse
The collapse is now being investigated by the Marlton office of the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).
Cherry Hill Fire Director Patrick Kelly informed the press that the head contractor, Carl R. Pursel Inc. of Berlin, Mancuso Contractors Inc. of Maple Shade, had obtained all the required permits and approvals to carry out the demolition.
He also noted that the demolition had been successful until the last piece of the building, a cinderblock wall and an attached metal roof, came down on top of the workers.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined.
