1 Killed, 31 Injured in Accident Involving Prison Bus

At least 31 prison inmates were injured on Friday morning in an accident involving a Texas prison bus in Comanche County.

Details about the Prison Bus Crash

KWTX News is reporting that at least 31 inmates were injured on Friday morning during a crash that involved a Texas prison bus just west of Gustine in Comanche County. At least one of the prisoners was flown to the Scott and White Hospital in Temple, according to officials.

Altogether, there were 21 inmates that were taken to various hospitals and another 10 were taken to an infirmary at an undisclosed prison unit in Gatesville, according to Texas prison spokesman Robert Hurst.

According to initial reports, the bus collided with a truck at the intersection of State Highway 36 and County Road 1702. The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene of the accident, according to Hurst.

The bus was headed from Abilene to Huntsville at the time of the accident and had a total of 31 prisoners and 2 guards on board the bus. One of those guards was the driver of the bus.

Neither of the guards were injured, and the injuries of the inmates have been determined to be non-life-threatening.
