11-Year-Old Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

Authorities investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that left a 11-year-old boy dead in Denver, Colorado have arrested a suspect in Auroroa.

Suspect Arrested in Connection to Fatal Accident

According to ABC 7NEWS, a suspect is under arrest in Aurora, Colorado in connection to a hit-and-run accident that left a child dead in West Denver around 8 pm Sunday evening.

An uncle of the young boy told reporters that his nephew was walking to his mother’s house with his 14-year-old cousin when he was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Federal Boulevard over West Colfax Avenue.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Early reports indicated that police were searching for a dark blue Dodge Charger – both the vehicle's front bumper and front license plate were left at the scene.

The vehicle was found shortly after at an Aurora home. Police arrested Oswaldo Lopez on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

  • The CDC recommends that pedestrians wear retro-reflective clothing or carrying flashlights to increase their visibility at night.
  • Pedestrians should remain on a sidewalk whenever possible. In the absence of a sidewalk, the CDC recommends that pedestrians walk facing traffic.
  • Pedestrians should avoid crossing the street outside of designated crossing areas whenever possible.
