14 Injured in Minneapolis Building Explosion
At least 14 people were injured after a Minneapolis building which houses a grocery store and apartments burst into flames Wednesday.
About the Minneapolis Building Explosion
- According to CNN, the three-story building was engulfed in flames after a explosion was reported around 8:15 a.m.
- Efforts to contain the heavy flames were hampered by minus 4 degree temperatures as firefighters worked in rotating shifts to avoid frostbite.
- It took hours before fire fighters to contain the fire, and the building was completely destroyed with the roof and second and third floors collapsing.
- The cause of the fire is still under speculation though authorities currently suspect a natural gas leak could be the culprit.
At Least 14 Injured in Apartment Fire
Though no fatalities were reported, at least 14 suffered injuries. Most injuries were from burns, though some suffered trauma as they leapt from windows in an attempt to escape the fire.
Hennepin County Medical Center has confirmed that three patients from the fire are in critical condition and six are in satisfactory condition. Fire officials, however, have stated that a total of six individuals were critically injured at the scene.
Fire fighters and rescue workers are still attempting to determine if anybody is still in the building, though the building has been deemed too dangerous for fire fighters to enter.
