Tina Robinson3 years ago

The Hartford Courant is reporting 14 people injured in a passenger van accident that happened along I-84 in Vernon, CT on Sunday.

Details of the Passenger Van Accident

Reports say the van was seen speeding on I-84 around 5:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon when it veered left and struck a 2010 Mercedes S550 and then a 2004 Ford Super Duty. The van proceeded to travel all the way back to the right side of the highway where it went over a metal guard rail and down an embankment and came to rest on its side.

At least a dozen emergency vehicles from various agencies responded to the accident. Two passengers were flown by helicopter to Hartford Hospital. 11 other passengers were also transported to the hospital to be treated for what is described as minor injuries. The driver of one of the vehicles struck by the van was also evaluated for possible injuries.

The driver of the van was partially ejected during the crash. Another passenger was reported as having her foot and leg stuck in the sliding door. Workers had difficulty freeing the passengers because of the densely wooded area.

According to authorities, the van was carrying 15 passengers between the ages of 14 and 80 when the accident happened.
