$15M Awarded in Rental Car Crash

Tyler Kirchoff4 years ago

After a five year trial, the parents of two women who were killed in an auto accident when the steering on their rental car failed have been awarded $15 million in a wrongful death lawsuit. Enterprise Rent-a-Car was found to be negligent for failing to fix the car, which had been recalled by the manufacturer.

Rental Company Failed to Comply with Auto Recall

  • The victims, 20 and 24, were returning from their mother’s home in 2004 when their PT Cruiser traveled across the median and collided with a semi-truck.
  • The plaintiff’s expert found that the crash was caused by a loss of control due to a steering fluid leak.
  • The PT Cruiser that the victims were driving had been recalled by Chrysler but had not been taken in for repair by Enterprise.
  • A jury found that Enterprise was negligent and awarded the victims’ parents $15 million for their daughters’ wrongful deaths.
