18 Hospitalized in Maryland School Bus Crash

18 people were hospitalized on Monday following a four-vehicle accident 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. in Charles County.

Details of the Crash

SoMd News reports that the crash began when a Charles County school bus carrying 16 students rear-ended a Nissan Maxima on Hawthorne Road in La Plata while en route to Henry E. Lackey High School. The initial collision resulted in two other cars crashing.

All 16 students were transported to the hospital following the crash, as were the bus driver and the driver of one of the cars.

The school system is cooperating with the sheriff’s office – it is unclear whether the bus driver will be put on leave during the investigation.
