An 18-wheeler caught fire after a collision with another vehicle on the South Side of San Antonio.

News 4 San Antonio is reporting that an 18-wheeler caught fire after an accident with an SUV on the South Side of San Antonio on Sunday morning.

Police reported that the accident happened just before 3 a.m. near Highway 16 and Applewhite Road.

According to police, a man who was driving an SUV ran a red light at an intersection and collided with the tractor-trailer. The 18-wheeler then caught fire, but the driver of the truck was able to extinguish the flames on the vehicle before emergency crews even arrived at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries in the accident and was detained due to suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
