2 Dead, 10 Injured in Caldwell County Crash

Two women are dead and 10 others are injured as a result of a of an auto accident in Caldwell County just north of Lockhart Saturday morning.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to WFAA, all twelve people involved in the accident were riding in a 2007 GMC Yukon. The SUV experienced a tire blowout while traveling southbound on Highway 130 near FM 1183 and rolled several times.

Eight of the twelve occupants were ejected from the vehicle while four others became trapped in the wreckage. Veronica Razo, 31, and her sister, Sonja Ramirez, 27, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The five children who were riding in the SUV were rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, and the five surviving adults were taken to UMC Brackenridge. All the survivors are listed in critical condition.

The 41-mile stretch of highway boasts the fastest posted speed limit in the nation at 85 miles per hour. The occupants were traveling together from Dallas – none were wearing seatbelts when the accident occurred.

  • Of those killed in vehicles where seat belt usage was applicable and usage was known, 44.7 percent were not restrained at the time of the collision.
  • An additional 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people sustaining serious injury.
