Laguna Beach authorities are investigating a Mother’s Day accident that has left two adults dead and two children injured.

About the Laguna Beach Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the collision occurred around 12:30 am Sunday. Sandra Maldonado was driving with her two children, ages 8 and 5, when their vehicle was sideswiped by a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Emergency crews successfully extracted Maldonado from her vehicle; unfortunately, she was pronounced dead after arriving to the hospital.

A 911 caller pulled Maldonado’s children from the car and put them in his vehicle until the arrival of the paramedics. The children sustained minor injuries are were treated at the hospital before being released to their family.

The driver of the other vehicle, an 86-year-old man from Laguna Woods, sustained critical injuries when his car flipped several times. He passed away on Monday.

The area involving the accident has double yellow lines and a single lane of traffic in either direction, and authorities are working to determine who crossed the center line. According to Capt. Jason Kravetz, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
