2 Dead in San Antonio Drunk Driving Crash

Authorities in San Antonio have arrested a man on charges of intoxication manslaughter in connection with a fatal car crash that left two dead early Saturday morning.

Details of the San Antonio Collision

According to KSAT, the accident occurred just before 2 am in westbound lanes of Interstate 10, near San Francisco St.

Reports indicate that the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu lost control of his vehicle before colliding with a concrete wall. Shortly after, the driver’s side of the stranded Malibu was struck by a Ford F-150. Police say the driver was intoxicated.

The driver of the Malibu and his passenger were both killed in the collision. There are being held pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the F-150, Manuel Martinez-Chavarria, 29, was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

  • In 2013, 3,377 people were killed in traffic collisions along Texas roadways. This marked a 1.05 percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • An additional 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people sustaining serious injury.
  • 1,089 people lost their lives in accidents involving at least one drunk driver. Drunk driving accounted for 32.2 percent of all Texas traffic fatalities.
