Two people are dead and another two are injured as a result of a multivehicle collision on Interstate 67 near San Angelo Saturday evening.

About the Fatal San Angelo Crash

According to San Angelo Standard Times, two people were killed Saturday in a multivehicle crash involving two passenger vehicles and two tractor-trailers.

The accident occurred when a Honda driven by 20-year-old Richard Michael Garcia, III rear-ended a Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 67.  Garcia’s vehicles then crossed the westbound lanes of traffic, coming to rest in a pasture.

Meanwhile, a 2008 Honda Civic traveling behind Garcia swerved to avoid the collision between Garcia’s Honda and the Peterbilt truck. The 2008 Civic veered into oncoming traffic where it collided with a 2003 Kenworth truck hauling a semitrailer.

The driver of the 2008 Honda Civic, Stephen Tyler Wadsworth, 21, and his passenger, Emily McKenna Word, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kenworth truck, Jeffrey Alan Bell, 60, and Garcia’s passenger, Stacci Rai Norton, 21, were taken to Shannon Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt truck was uninjured.

Driver Arrested, Crash Linked to Racing

Police determined that the two Hondas had been racing at the time of the accident.

Garcia has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide, accident involving injury, racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury, and driving while intoxicated.

Racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury is a third-degree felony and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
