Rachel Moody2 years ago

Two young men were killed and another injured in a fatal car crash that occurred on Monson Road in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, according to MassLive.  The crash occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night along a downhill stretch of Monson Road just west of Bolles Road, about a half-mile east of Main Street.

About the Fatal Car Crash

Police Chief Roger Tucker told WGGB news the vehicle lost control on the curve at the intersection of Bolles Road and Monson Road and struck a guardrail on the south side of the road.  The car then hit a utility pole, which caused the vehicle to begin a rollover motion across two lawns of homes on Monson Road.  Witnesses also reported the car may have been speeding prior to the crash.

WWLP News reported the idenitifes of the victims. 19-year-old Nathan Raffol and 23-year-old Nolan Toski were killed.  24-year-old Adam Surrette remains in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center.  All three young men were thrown from the car, leading police to believe that none of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts.  It is unknown who was driving at the time of the crash.

Toski died at the crash site while Raffol and Surette were brought to the hospital by ambulance.  Raffol died at the hospital, while Surette underwent surgery.

Seat Belt Statistics

The following facts were taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • In 2013, 87% of people wore their seatbelt while in a vehicle.
  • When used properly, lap/shoulder seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate-to-critical injury by 50%.
