Details of the Houston School Bus Crash

A report from CNN indicates the bus was carrying four students from the REACH Charter High School to the Furr High School in Houston when the accident occurred.

A Buick drifted into the bus’s lane and the car struck the bus in its front causing the bus driver, Louisa Pacheco, to overcorrect. The bus then crashed through a guardrail and off the overpass.

One 17-year-old student was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and another died in the hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck. The bus driver and the two other students were treated for serious injuries.

Pacheco was up to date on her required training as a bus driver and did not have any incidents notated on her record since she was employed with the school district three years ago. Although the bus was equipped with passenger safety belts, their use is not mandated by the school.
