2 Teens Killed in Florida Pedestrian Accident

Two 16-year-old pedestrians were hit by a car on Friday night in Bradford County, Florida.

About the Bradford County Accident

According to the Florida Times-Union, the two pedestrians were identified as John Ziegenfuss and Matthew Powe. Ziengenfuss. They were hit by a vehicle on Florida State Road 21 around 10:30 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Powe was pronounced dead at the scene and Ziegenfuss was moved to a hospital where he later died. Stephen Lawrence Bryan, 38, was the driver of the Dodge vehicle that hit the two boys.

Bryan was going southbound on FL S.R. 21 south of Southeast 31st Street. There were four passengers in the vehicle but no one was injured.

  • The first half of 2014 estimated around 2,141 pedestrian deaths.
  • California, Florida, Texas, and New York are responsible for 43 percent of the nation’s total pedestrian deaths in 2013.
  • Florida and Delaware had the highest rate of total pedestrian deaths per 100,000 people with rates of 2.70 and 2.56.
  • Pedestrians 70 years and older had the highest per capita crash-related death rate of all age group, which has decreased from 9.3 in 1975 to 2.2 in 2013.
  • In 1975, about one in four pedestrians deaths were of children ages 0-12, which was 21 percent, and decreased to 4 percent in 2013.
