20 Temple Students Injured in Bus Crash

At least 20 Temple ISD students were transported to area hospitals after four school buses collided on the way to a football game Friday night, according to KXXV.

Details of the Temple School Bus Crash

Witness reports indicate the buses were carrying a total of 100 students, many of whom were band members and cheerleaders, when the incident occurred. The buses were traveling to Bryan for a playoff game.

A school district employee stated an 18-wheeler was also involved in the in the chain reaction accident.

Most of the injuries reported involved scrapes, bruises, and sore necks. Students were treated at Baylor Scott & White in Temples as well as at a hospital in Cameron.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in auto accidents in 2014 – roughly one death every 2 hours and 29 minutes.

  • An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accident sin 2014 with 17,152 people sustaining incapacitating injuries.
  • TxDOT estimates a reportable crash occurred every 66 seconds.
