2010 Jeep Wranglers Recalled- Fire Hazard

Chrysler is recalling 67,872 Jeep Wranglers equipped with automatic transmissions due to a defect in the transmission skid plate which could lead to spontaneous vehicle fires.  

About the Jeep Wrangler Recall

According to the official recall notice, certain 2010 Jeep Wranglers equipped with automatic transmissions contain a transmission skid plate located close to the catalytic converter. The skid plate can collect debris which may ignite, causing a vehicle fire without warning. Chrysler will contact owners and dealers will replace the defective part free of charge.

Jeep Recall Facts for Consumers

  • A transmission skid plate is fitted on the bottom of a vehicle to prevent parts of the vehicle from contacting rocks or other objects.
  • The collected debris can ignite due to its location near the exhaust system under the vehicle.
  • This recall is expected to begin in May 2012. The recall number for Chrysler is M22.
