228,000 Jeep Vehicles Recalled for Faulty Air Bags

Emaan Elahi2 years ago

According to The Detroit Free Press, Jeep has issued a recall on more than 228,000 vehicles to fix a software problem that can cause side air bags to inflate.

Details of the Jeep Airbag Recall

The recall includes 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees, and is one of many recalls due to troubles with air bags.

Fiat Chrysler, the company that makes Jeeps, says there have been a few air bag deployments in extreme maneuvers when the car’s angle is dramatically altered. The abrupt air bag inflation can cause crashes, but Chrysler claims no accidents have been reported.

Most recalled vehicles are in the U.S. and Canada. Dealers will revise the software to change the threshold for inflating the air bags.

There have been many other cases of injuries due to air bag inflation. U.S. safety regulators say that more than 2 million Toyota, Chrysler and Honda vehicles need to fix the airbags.

List of Other Models Covered by Airbag Recall

  • Fiat Chrysler is only one of the multiple automakers recalling vehicles for air bag defects this year. Other recall models include:
    • Acura MDX, Dodge Viper
    • Jeep Grand Cherokee
    • Honda Odyssey
    • Pontiac Vibe
    • Toyota Corolla
    • Toyota Avalon
  • The recalled vehicles were manufactured between 2002 and 2004.
