3 Dead, 2 Injured in Sherman-Area Accident

A two-vehicle collision near Sherman, Texas left three people dead and two others in critical condition Friday morning.

Details of the Sherman Accident

According to KXII, the collision occurred on State Highway 289 between Mormon Grove and State Highway 56 around 11 am.

Preliminary reports indicate a sedan crossed over the center line and crashed head-on into an oncoming Lincoln Navigator SUV – the SUV soon began to catch fire. A truck driver and his co-driver were able extinguish the flames, saving the driver who was pinned in the vehicle.

It took about 40 minutes for emergency crews to extract the driver of the SUV from her vehicle; she has been transported to the medical Center of Plano with critical injuries..

The driver of the sedan as well as two of the sedan’s backseat passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger of the Sedan was taken to Wilson N. Jones Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – down 1.05-percent from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • 1,883 people were killed in auto accidents that occurred in rural areas of the state, and 523 people were killed in head-on collisions.
  • An additional 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents in 2013 with 89,270 people suffering serious injuries.
