3 Dead, 5 Injured in Brady Accident

Three people, including two children, were killed and five others were seriously injured following a head-on collision north of Brady Tuesday afternoon.

Details of the Fatal Brady Accident

According to KRBC, a family of six was traveling south along North Highway 377 in a Chevy Suburban when they were struck head-on by a blue Dodge pickup that had crossed the center lane.

The driver of the Suburban – a female in her early 20s – and a toddler were both killed on impact. A second child later died at an area hospital. A male passenger and two other children were also hospitalized.

The occupants of the pickup, two men reported to be in their early 20s, were also hospitalized and are listed in critical condition.

The accident is still under investigation and police have not yet determined a cause or the speed at which the two vehicles were traveling prior to collision.

Following information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation:

  • In 2012, Texas recorded 3,399 traffic related fatalities – a 10.82 percent increase from the 3,067 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • In addition, 230,506 motorists, cyclists and pedestrians were injured in traffic collisions with 87,087 people sustaining serious injuries.
  • Head-on collisions resulted in 533 deaths, and 55.7 percent of all the states traffic fatalities occurred along rural stretches of road.
  • Using available data, the Texas Department of Transportation estimates that:
    • One person was killed in a traffic collision every two hours and 35 minutes.
    • One person was injured every two minutes and 17 seconds.
    • One reportable crash occurred every 75 seconds.
