3 Injured in San Antonio Drunk Driving Accident

Three women have been hospitalized following a head-on collision with a suspected drunk driver on San Antonio’s North Side.

Details of the San Antonio Collision

The San Antonio Express-News reports the accident occurred around 9:30 pm Thursday. The three women were traveling northbound on Blanco Road near San Angelo Boulevard when the vehicle was struck head-on by a Mercedes R350.

The 21-year-old driver of the first vehicle had to be extracted from her car and suffered serious bodily injury. She and her two passengers were taken to University Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes has been booked on charges of intoxication assault.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 fatalities reported in 2012.
  • 523 deaths were linked to head-on collisions, and 1,089 were associated with crashes in which a driver was under the influence of alcohol.
  • 232,041 people were injured in traffic collisions in 2013 with 89,270 people sustaining a serious injury.
  • TxDOT estimates one person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 36 minutes and one person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
