3 Injured in Water Tank Explosion

Three people were injured last week when a water tank at a corn flour plant near Lubbock exploded.

About the Plant Explosion

According to NBC-DFW, the incident occurred Wednesday at the Minsa Corporation plant in Muleshoe, Texas. The explosion left three plant workers injured.

Two of the workers were transported to a hospital in Lubbock, and the third employee was taken to a hospital in Muleshoe for treatment. The names of the workers and their conditions were not immediately available.

Minsa Corporation has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Adminsitration (OSHA) in the past. The citations came after an inspection conducted in July 2014.

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 workers were killed on the job in 2013. This averages to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths per day.
  • 3,929 of those deaths occurred in private industry with 796 being linked to construction.
  • Among the most common causes of death recorded were:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocution
    • Caught-In/between
