3 Japanese Automakers Expand Takata Recalls

Destiny Baker2 years ago

According to Reuters, Toyota Motor Corp, Nissan Motor Co, and Honda Motor Co Ltd, have all announced plans to expand their recalls of vehicles equipped with faulty Takata-brand airbags.

Takata Airbags Explode on Deployment

Recalls for the Takata airbags hit the market last year following reports that the airbags can rupture upon deployment, ejecting metal shrapnel through vehicle cabins.

Six deaths have now been linked to the exploding airbags, all occurring in Honda vehicles. Toyota and Nissan have not announced any accidents or injuries in connection with their recalls.

Since the initial recalls, more than 17 million vehicles have been recalled by automakers, 11 million of which were sold in the U.S. However, the Center for Auto Safety alleges the total number of vehicles in the U.S. is closer to 20 to 25 million.
