3 Memphis Children’s Hospital Workers Killed In Helicopter Crash

CNN reports that three hospital workers were killed in a helicopter crash at around 6:20 a.m. near Somerville, Tennessee.

About the Tenessee Mecical Helicopter Crash

“They have taken care of so many kids in their short lives. I can’t tell you how incredibly difficult it is for the entire team.” – Dr. Jay Pershad, medical director of Le Bonheur’s air transport program as published by CNN.

  • The three workers were on route to pick up a boy who was in renal failure at another hospital, but their helicopter crashed, killing all on board. 
  • Among those killed were registered nurse Carrie Barlow, 43, respiratory therapist Denise Adams, 43, and pilot Charles Smith, 47.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the case as to why the helicopter went down. Currently, no known cause has been reported.
  • The boy was transported via ambulance following the helicopter accident.

  • In 2010, a Hospital Wing medical helicopter crashed in 2010 after in Brownsville, Tennessee after dropping off a patient, killing three.
  • Hospital Wing transports apporoximately 150 patients a month.
