303,000 Commercial Vans Recalled by GM

Tina Robinson3 years ago

General Motors announced Monday that it is recalling 303,000 commercial vans after determining that the vehicles' passenger-side airbags fail to meet federal standards.

About the Commercial Van Recall

According to a report by USA Today, GM has recalled 303,000 GMC and Chevrolet vans due to a risk of serious injury to unbelted passengers.

GM acknowledged that the material covering the passenger-side airbags does not meet federal standards and may result in significant head injuries.

The recall was triggered by an internal safety review of GM conducted after last month’s recall for 1.65 million vehicles equipped with faulty ignition switches.

The previous recall has been linked to at least 31 frontal collisions and 13 deaths.

Description of the Recalled Commercial Vans

  • Models affected by the commercial van recall include:
    • 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express
    • 2009-2014 GMC Savana
  • The recall applies to standard- and medium-duty models with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 10,000 pounds.
  • USA Today reports that GM has issued a “stop delivery” for recalled models still for sale at dealerships.
  • The vans are most often used by tradesmen, such as electricians and plumbers, but are also in use as passenger shuttles for churches, hotels and airports.
