Three teenagers and an elderly man are dead following a head-on collision near Greenveille, Texas.

About the Fatal Accident

According to WUSA 9 News, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. Friday on Westbound I-30 east of Greenville. Preliminary reports indicate a silver Mercury that was traveling east in the westbound lanes collided head-on with an SUV carrying five teenagers.

The two vehicles were then struck by an 18-wheeler that was unable to avoid the two wrecked vehicles. The second impact resulted in the SUV catching fire.

Three of the five teenagers in the SUV and the driver of the Mercury were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Dale Niebaur, 19; Holly Novack, 18; Kyle Mathers, 19; and Kenneth Frazier, 78.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. The other two teenagers in the SUV were taken to a nearby hospital. One is in critical condition – the other is alert.

Alcohol does not seem to be a factor for either party; however, an investigation into why the 78-year-old man was traveling the wrong way is underway.
