4 Million Bumbo Baby Seats Recalled
Bumbo International has issued a recall on about 4 million of their popular “Bumbo Baby Seats” due to ongoing reports of children falling from the chairs and suffering skull fractures. The company previously recalled 1 million seats in 2007 to add new warnings to the product labels.
Bumbo Baby Seats Originally Recalled in 2007
According to a recent recall release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Bumbo first recalled their baby seats in 2007, after the company learned of more than two dozen instances in which young children fell out of the seats (three incidents led to skull fractures.) The 2007 recall resulted in new warnings being placed on the chairs, instructing parents and caregivers to refrain from placing children in the chairs on elevated surfaces.
Despite the new warnings, Bumbo continued to receive reports of children falling out of the chairs (at both elevated surfaces and on the floor) and being injured.
More Child Injuries Prompt Bumbo to Issue Second Recall
The CPSC is now aware of 50 incidents, including 19 skull fractures, since the 2007 recall- all attributed to children who were placed on a raised surface (despite the new warning). Additionally, there have been 34 post-recall reports of infants being injured after falling out or maneuvering out of a Bumbo seat used on the floor or at an unknown elevation. Two of these incidents involved reports of skull fractures; additional reports involved bumps, bruises and other minor injuries.
Parents- Stop Using Bumbo Baby Seats Immediately
- The CPSC urges consumers to stop using Bumbo Baby Seats until they order and install a free repair kit, which includes a restraint belt with a warning label, installation instructions, safe use instructions and a new warning sticker.
- Consumers can order the free repair kit by visiting www.recall.BumboUSA.com or calling (866) 898-4999.
- Do not return the items to the store of purchase, as the individual stores do not have repair kits on site.
