40-hour Crash Test Course Offered at Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is offering a 40-hour course meant to educate students on accident reconstruction.

New Course Focuses on Pedestrian Accidents

According to San Antonio Express-News, the 40-hour course on reconstructing pedestrian-auto accidents is being provided by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service at the university's Riverside Campus, 3100 Texas 47 in Bryan.

The course contains simulated accidents presented in case studies.

This course is being offered to law enforcement officers who specialize in traffic investigations and for reconstruction professionals.

National Pedestrian Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • 4,743 pedestrians were killed in traffic collisions in 2012 – roughly one pedestrian death every 2 hours and 7 minutes.
  • An additional 76,000 pedestrians were injured in traffic incidents in 2012.
  • It is estimated that pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a car crash each trip than a passenger vehicle occupants.
