Destiny Baker3 years ago

At least 48 people were injured in a Chicago train accident Monday morning during which an unmanned train somehow started moving down the track, eventually colliding with another Blue Line Train.

Two Trains Collide in Chicago

  • According to ABC, the train collision occurred Monday morning around 8 p.m. at Forest Park near the intersection of the Eisenhower Expressway and Harlem Avenue.
  • The runaway train which departed from the Chicago Transportation Authority rail yard traveled eastbound before colliding with a stopped Blue Line train carrying passengers.
  • At least 48 people were injured as a result of the collision with 33 being transported to 10 hospitals.
  • The extent of the injuries suffered by the hospitalized passengers is unclear at this time.

Official Baffled by the Chicago Train Collision

“We don’t know what led the train to start moving on the path it did. It should not have done so.” – CTA spokesperson Brian Steele as published by ABC

  • Thus far, officials have no explanation as to how the unmanned four car train was put into motion.
  • This has led to suspicions of sabotage, but CTA spokesperson Brian Steele notes that there were no signs of criminal activity, forced entry, or broken windows on the train.
  • The unmanned train was scheduled for repair at the rail yard.
