5 Dead in Zavala County Collision

Five people were killed in a head-on collision near Batesville, Texas last Thursday.

About the Deadly Crash

Fox 29 reports that five people were killed Thursday night when two pickups collided head-on on Highway 57.

Reports indicate the crash occurred about five miles east of Batesville, southwest of San Antonio.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the accident but did state that among the deceased were a mother and son from Eagle Pass and a mother, father, and child from Crystal City.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • 1,883 traffic-fatalities were recorded in rural areas of the state, and 523 deaths were linked to head-on collisions.
  • Another 232,041 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013.
  • TxDOT estimates one person was killed in an auto accident in Texas every 2 hours and 36 minutes in 2013.
