About the Incident

Two girls who were near the intersection when the accident happened, claimed that the pickup truck was speeding. Court records also indicate that the man driving the pickup truck – Alberto Coronado – did not try to slow down before impact. The pickup hit the sedan with so much force that both vehicles went through a fence and into the yard of a neighborhood residence. In addition, according to the complaint affidavit, sheriff deputies on the scene did not see any skid marks on the road before where the truck made impact.

After the crash, Coronado, 23, admitted to drinking at least 2 beers to emergency responders and to one of the sheriff deputies. Also, according to one of the sheriff deputies, Coronado’s breath smelled like alcohol. Furthermore, Coronado had trouble keeping his balance during the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, he turned the wrong way, and had to use his arms to help him balance during the walking stage. According to the El Paso Times, Coronado took a blood test, which is still pending.
