50,000 Honda Civics Recalled

Kayla Jackson4 years ago

Honda is recalling more than 50,000 2012 Civic vehicles due to a faulty driveshaft which could separate from the car, causing loss of drive power and increasing the chance of a crash.

Driveshaft May Separate from Car

  • The driveshaft runs underneath the vehicle and connects the engine to the gears that control the vehicles’ wheels.
  • In affected Honda Civil models, there is a possibility that the driveshaft will separate from the car and cause a loss of drive power.
  • This could also cause the vehicle to roll if the parking brake is not selected, increasing the likelihood of a crash.

Important Information for Honda Civil Owners

  • This recall involves 50,190 2012 Honda Civic vehicles.
  • Dealers will inspect and replace driveshafts free of charge.
  • Replacements will begin June 21, 2012.
  • Concerned customers can contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. The recall reference number is: S40.
  • Customers may also report incidents/injuries to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
