6 Dead, 15 Injured in Valhalla train Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating a collision between an sports utility vehicle and a Metropolitan Transportation Authority passenger train that left six people dead and 15 others injured in Valhalla, New York on Tuesday.

About the Valhalla Train Accident

According to The Journal news, the collision occurred on Commerce Street near the Taconic State Parkway around 6:30 pm.

Six people were killed in the accident, including five passengers who were aboard the train, and another 15 were injured.

The injured were taken to Westchester Medical Center and Phelps Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Authorities believe the Mercedes-Benz SUV became trapped on the tracks when the gates came down on the vehicle. It was then struck by the Harlem Line train.

NTSB Investigates Fatal Incident

NTSB investigators arrived from Washington around 11 am Wednesday and are expected to be on the scene for five to seven days.

In addition to documenting the wreckage, the investigators will also be gathering aerial footage of the crash site and scanning the train with 3-demensional laser imaging devices.

They have also have access video footage from the crossing.
