6 Dead, 7 Injured in Balcony Collapse in California
Details of the Fatal Incident
On Tuesday, June 16th, a balcony at an apartment complex in Berkeley, California collapsed, killing five Irish students and one American student and injuring seven others. The tragic incident occurred sometime before 1:00 am last Tuesday.
When officials arrived at the apartment building, they stumbled upon a horrifying scene: the fourth floor balcony of the Kittredge Street apartment building had completely disintegrated.
According to Fox News, four of the students died at the scene of the incident, while two succumbed to their injuries late Tuesday afternoon at the hospital.
Six Killed in Collapse
The six fatal victims have been identified as 22-year old Ashley Donahoe, 21-year old Olivia Burke, 21-year old Eoghen Culligan, 21-year old Lurcan Miller, 21-year old Niccolai Schuster, and 21-year old Eimear Walsh; the seven other victims have not been named, but it has been reported that they are all in critical condition and have been hospitalized for the life-threatening injuries sustained from the collapse.
The Irish students were all in the U.S under temporary student visas; it is still unknown what caused the balcony to collapse
