8 Dead in Tennessee in Tragic Bus Crash

At least 8 are dead after a horrific multiple vehicle accident in Tennessee in which a church bus collided with a tractor-trailer and an SUV.

Details on the Tennessee Bus Crash

  • A North Carolina church bus carrying 18 passengers was returning home after the church members had attended the 17th Fall Jubilee conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
  • Around 2 p.m. in Jefferson County, about 30 miles east of Knoxville, the bus’s left front tire had a blowout causing the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle.
  • The bus clipped a nearby SUV before slamming into a tractor-trailer which burst into flames.

  •  In all, the accident has resulted in the deaths of six bus passengers, the driver of the tractor-trailer and the one of the SUV passengers.
  • 14 people were hospitalized due to the accident with eight being transported via ambulance and four being airlifted from the crash site.
  • Both lanes of the interstate were closed for hours as authorities attempted to clear the wreckage of the bus and the tractor-trailer that continued to smolder for hours after the flames were put out.
  • According to CNN, some family members of the deceased have yet to be notified due to difficulties identifying the bodies.
