9-Year-Old Girl Dies In Harris County Car Accident

A 9-year-old girl was killed on Saturday after the car she was traveling in was struck an alleged drunk driver.

About the Deadly Car Accident

According to the Houston Chronicle, the fatal accident occurred when an unidentified man, 24, driving a pickup truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Cypresswood and Sciaaca in northwest Harris County.

The truck collided with the car that the young girl was riding in; she died on her way to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The girl’s parents were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries – the driver of the pickup escaped the accident without injury.

Authorities suspect the driver of the pickup was drunk at the time of the collision and have arrested the man on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Authorities have not released the names of any of those involved in the crash.

  • 33,561 people died in motor vehicle accidents in 2012, marking a 3.3% increase from 2011.
  • Injury rates due to car accidents increased 6.7% from 2011 to 2012.
  • Accidents involving alcohol accounted for 31% of all motor vehicle fatalities. 
  • From 2011 to 2012, there was a 3.7% increase in the number of auto accidents involving large trucks.
