9-Year-Old Killed in Hunterdon County ATV Accident
Details of the ATV Accident
According to the Daily Record, Gavin Martuccio was riding a Suzuki 250CC ATV at a property in the 900 block of Route 519 when he was ejected from the vehicle and struck a piece of farm equipment.
Authorities responded to the incident shortly after 4:30 pm and administered CPR to Martuccio. The young boy was rushed to Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township for treatment, but he was pronounced dead at 5:53 pm.
Reports indicate that while Martuccio was wearing a helmet when the accident happened, he was riding an ATV designed for much older, experienced riders. New Jersey state law prohibits anyone under the age of 16 from operating an ATV with an engine of more than 90cc on public lands and highways; however, the law does not regulate ATV use on private land.
Gavin Martuccio is the third resident in the Central Jersey area to be killed in an ATV-related accident this year.
